Bored? Looking for something to do? Start with this list of things to do in the Sacramento area.
(Credit for the below list has to be given to u/BurritoFueled, who created the original list in 2014 and updated it a year later. Almost two-thirds of the items below are still from that original list. All I’ve done with the list is revive it a little bit by updating dead links and making little tweaks when necessary. Also, thanks to those that submitted new additions to the list last week. Over a third of the below items are new and a lot of the original items have had newer information added onto them.) People are always looking for something to do around here. Maybe you’re a transplant, unaware of what this area has to offer, or maybe you’re a lifelong resident, tired of the same old thing. Well friend, if you fall into the latter category, do not despair. There’s actually plenty of things to do in the Sacramento area – things of interest to almost any lifestyle, personality, or budget. So, whether you’re an athlete, geek, eccentric, hipster, weirdo, sexual deviant or just a normal person looking for a new activity, below is a list of activities for you to try. Please note that it includes only activities that take place at least a few times a year – no one-off events or festivals here. Enjoy this list. If you have any suggestions of your own to add, comment below in this thread. I'll try to keep this as up to date as possible. Away we go. UPDATED 10-6-20 (Note: Due to the current pandemic, some of these activities may be curtailed or not offered at all.)
Become the next Tiger Woods (the golf part, not the cheating, getting your windshield smashed by your wife with one of your golf clubs part). Start by hitting up a driving range at Top Golf or Haggin Oaks.
Purchase the sweetest sweet corn in all the land at the Davis Ranch in Sloughhouse.
When you're done in Sloughhouse, head a little further up the Jackson Highway (just past Rancho Murieta), hang a left on Michigan Bar Road, and cross the bridge (it's safe, trust me!) for one of the most historic, beautiful, and adventurous road trips in the entire area. Make sure you bring a hearty vehicle and avoid during winter and spring.
Check out – or offer your services – at the Oak Park Fix-it Café, a community-powered gathering for repairing and maintaining bicycles, clothing, household items, and the ties that bind a healthy community.
Buy some tricks, attend magic workshops, and become the next David Blaine at Grand Illusions.
Go watch some horseracing at Cal Expo. It’s harness racing from November through April and then traditional horseracing during the state fair. Want to end up with small fortune at the end of your day at the track? It’s easy. Just start your day there with a large fortune.
Watch some high school football! The Sacramento region boasts some of the best high school programs in the state. Check out top notch teams like Grant, Elk Grove, Folsom, and Del Oro to see potential NCAA Division 1 and NFL players of the future.
Watch some college football! Sac State had a huge resurgence in 2019 and UC Davis has always had a solid program. You can also check out the JC teams such as ARC and Sac City.
If Live-Action Role Play (LARP) floats your boat, Sacramento Valley Amtgard has the battles, weapons workshops, and skills classes you've been looking for.
Take a ride on the Sacramento River Train. You can ride the train or power along the tracks yourself with railbikes. They have different train excursions, including beer tasting and wine tasting trips. If you want to book a trip on a weekend, book early.
Want to learn how to fish? Try Fishing in the City from the California Department of Fish and Wildlife. After you’ve learned, check out the blog from FishingBooker on where and when to go fishing and what to expect. For some recent local recommendations, check here, here, here or here.
If fishing tours are more your style, catch your lunch on a guided fishing tour of local waterways.
Take in a play at one of Sacramento's smaller, edgier, more contemporary community theatre companies, like the Big Idea Theatre.
Do you like beer and visiting breweries, but don’t like driving between them? Midtown Sacramento has got you covered! Make a day of it by visiting these breweries, all within easy walking distance of each other: At Ease, Sacrament, Big Stump, Golden Road, Fieldwork, and Alaro. If you don’t mind walking a few extra blocks, you can add Device and Urban Roots to the list.
Ever wanted to learn to sail, kayak or row? You’re in luck! The Sac State Aquatic Center offers lessons for those activities and more.
Antiquing never gets old, right? Visit Midway Antique Mall in Citrus Heights (focusing almost solely on midcentury wares), Antique Trove in Roseville, or the Antique Fair that happens every second Sunday on X Street, under the freeway.
Want to become the next Picasso? You gotta start somewhere, so take a paint and sip class at The Painted Cork in Midtown Sacramento or Historic Folsom.
It’s well known that you can play miniature golf at Scandia, but did you know that there are indoor mini golf courses in the area as well? Try SacMiniGolf in Old Sacramento, Flatstick Pub in DoCo downtown, or even glow-in-the-dark indoor mini golf at Monster Mini Golf in Rancho Cordova or at CaliGlo in Elk Grove.
The Sacramento Cactus and Succulent Society meets, and hosts a talk, at the Shepard Garden and Arts Center in McKinley Park monthly and welcomes guests. They also do field trips and their Annual Show and Sale is a must-see event for plant lovers.
Not to diminish the concert series at Fair Oaks Village Park, but when you hear "concerts in the park", everyone knows that is the Concerts in the Park series in downtown Sacramento. Live local and national acts perform on Friday evenings in the summer, and it’s totally free. If you’re not good with crowds you may want to give this a miss because it is packed!
Vacation or day trip so close, yet feel so far away, along the Delta. Rent a boat, jet skis, a cabin or camping spot, buy some bait and tackle, and/or eat out at various locations on the river.
Take a drive around the world’s smallest mountain range: the Sutter Buttes. You can actually drive around and hike the Sutter Buttes in the same day, however hiking is not free, you must do it as part of a guided group and you have to reserve a spot in advance.
If you have decided to read all this, thanks, keep reading for a concise breakdown!
So what's the current big thing going on with ARK right NOW?
ARK.io has recently announced on both its blog and its Twitter that ARK Core v2.6 is coming to Mainnet February 11th. The iteration of 2.6 may sound anticlimactic, but it's far from that. Core v2.6 is the biggest upgrade to date- even bigger than the total Core overhaul performed for v2.0, deployed late 2018. The new version brings new transaction types to the ARK Public Network, including types that will play a role in creating an ecosystem of linked chains. This ecosystem of linked chains will have the ARK Public Network in the center of the action, storing chain details and allowing for chain discovery. These new transaction types include: Multipayments — sending to multiple ARK addresses, while just initiating one transaction, saves time and cost Multisignatures — you can now get all of the benefits of multisignatures where more than one user can propose or spend funds depending on the predefined terms (eg. 2 out of 3 users needed to successfully send tokens, vote, …) IPFS — register IPFS compliant hashes on the ARK blockchain within Desktop Wallet. Business & Bridgechain registrations — you can now register your business and bridgechain on the blockchain and soon, you will be able to get verified via our Marketplace to get access to some exciting new features. Delegate resignation — delegates who don’t want to be voted for anymore can now opt-out of this by simply initiating delegate resignation. Additionally, the Core v2.6 improves security against double-spend attacks by implementing nonces. Also, massive enhancements were made to the GTI or Generic Transaction Interface, a critical tool for developers who wish to develop decentralized applications.
What is ARK's unique approach to current issues plaguing the blockchain industry?
ARK empowers everyone, regardless of their aim or technical background, to quickly and easily leverage blockchain technology. In the current hype-driven blockchain landscape, ARK acts as a beacon for individuals, groups, and enterprises seeking to apply blockchain technology to both reach their individual goals and affect change in their local community. ARK’s uniquely simple technology stack allows almost anyone to create and deploy standalone blockchains for any use case with an intuitive graphical user interface and experience. These newly created blockchains also known as bridgechains will have the ability to interoperate through ARK SmartBridge Technology. ARK is also reinventing smart contracts with ARK Logic, a collection of tools including custom transaction types, templates, and plugins. ARK Logic brings security, adaptability, and scalability to decentralized computing workflows. Most importantly, the ARK Ecosystem fosters a growing international community of developers, node operators, blockchains, businesses, and enthusiasts who collectively breathe life into this disruptive technology. Get into the interactive whitepaper here.
Tell me about the ARK Public Network
Ok, no problem. Since coming online on March 21, 2017, the APN has operated as a P2P cryptocurrency with fast block times of 8 seconds and low dynamic fees (near a penny and somewhat novel for a DPoS blockchain). However, the end goal of the APN far exceeds that of just a cryptocurrency that is faster and cheaper to use than Bitcoin. I'll explain further in a minute. The network, as mentioned, is set up as Delegated Proof-of-Stake. This means forging delegates are deemed worthy to secure the chain and add blocks to it by the holders of the ARK token, which vote for delegates using their ARK as vote weight. ARK remains in users' control at all times, and the top 51 delegates in vote weight enter forging status. The network awards each delegate 2 ARK per block (~12,705 ARK/mo) for services rendered. This continues ad infinitum resulting in a declining inflation rate each year (relative to total supply). When users add or remove ARK from a voting wallet address, vote weight adjusts automatically and they don't need to vote again. Voting continues even if user's wallet is offline. The main uses of ARK as the cryptoasset of the ARK Public Network besides being a P2P cryptocurrency include:
Being a medium of exchange for ARK Public Network services. Delegates and businesses can operate services where transactions are settled in ARK.
Allowing convenience in interoperability, giving users access to bridgechain use cases via the main ARK cryptoasset.
Liquidity for small and large ARK bridgechains. This is via ARK SmartBridge Technology/ARK Swap Market (in development)
Payment method for plugin, delegate, and talent marketplaces. Services rendered can have transactions settled using ARK.
Yes, team good. Team very good. General sentiment among ARK team members is that ARK is a dream project to work on, and this motivates them to do great work on a consistent basis as the ARK technology stack progresses. Very recently, ARK hired an additional half dozen people in various departments, including marketing department. This brings ARK team total to over three dozen experts. The ARK business entity is also well funded with around 10 years of budget. The ARK business entity spends funds in a very sensible manner compared to some other projects who spend with insufficient foresight or discretion. Members of the board are thoughtful and deliberate, and the CEO FX Thoorens has been hard at work putting a spotlight on ARK, showing an 'intermeshing' of ARK with the global regulatory landscape in regards to crypto. Recently, ARK became a founding member of ADAN, a professional association based in France created to help structure and develop the digital assets industry. Other members include Consensys France and Ledger. ADAN will consult with public authorities, industry leaders and private bodies to promote the use of digital assets and all activities in this sector. This includes exchange platforms, brokers, hardware, protocols, decentralized applications and blockchain technology platforms. Hear FX Thoorens talk more about this in this podcast episode. The ARK business entity is located in France, but the ARK team is distributed across 10+ countries and multiple continents.
What's going to happen?
Cool stuff. Organizations and open source projects have been stumbling across ARK and really like what they see. Multiple projects are working with ARK technology and are at various stages of development, but since you're busy, I'll highlight the project nOS which recently launched their public testnet and uses ARK technology for their blockchain. nOS also has great things to say about ARK that you can hear in this podcast episode or watch in this video. We believe that as more businesses, organizations, and open source projects start looking around for blockchain solutions, they will also enjoy ARK's simplicity, flexibility, and feature set. Our powerful technology stack is backed up by a recently upgraded documentation hub for developers. The product we have that makes it very easy for projects to join the ARK Ecosystem is called the ARK Deployer, which you can learn about in this two minute video. It allows developers from all walks of life to create, customize and launch a standalone blockchain in three simple steps. In the near future, what's going to happen is a big improvement to the Deployer. The ARK Deployer will get an upgraded and more powerful user interface that also facilitates chain management post-launch, as well as interface directly with cloud providers like Digital Ocean to launch genesis node and peers in background. This would allow for a massive leap forward in our vision of 'Point. Click. Blockchain.' ARK.io is also working on a Marketplace for developers, where custom plugins and tools developed by both ARK.io as well as third parties can be acquired for assembling blockchains much easier. Imagine a wordpress-type environment where you can create a super-powerful and customized blockchain by connecting Legos together. In the same way that early World Wide Web needed WordPress/Squarespace style tools to bring the technology to every business or organization, we believe that this need will be out there for blockchain technology as this new decade progresses. There is more cool stuff that is going to happen, but I'll wrap it up there for now.
After reading all this stuff, what is it you want me to do?
Well, not make any financial decisions, because that is not the purpose of this information. However, as a developer, there's a lot of interesting things you should know and may want to consider doing. The ARK technology stack uses TypeScript and other JS-style frameworks, so if you know those, you should get excited.
Earn a lot more ARK. The Tier 0 Program offers bigger projects we need help with and therefore more ARK. You can even contact the team with an idea for a Tier 0 Project you want to do that makes ARK look cool. For example, there is a Tier 0 project designed to highlight ARK tech as a proof of concept for scooter rentals. See program status here.
Look into the ARK Deployer for making your own chain with a custom use case. If you are a part of a project that is currently just a token on someone else's mainnet, and you have scaling concerns or issues with sovereignty, ARK should be a candidate for upgrading your solution for this new decade. Check out ARK Deployer here.
Here's some additional less 'developery' stuff you can do:
Get your idea funded through theARK Community Fund. It's community run, and operated by community elected board members. Your idea can be anything that helps ARK, maybe some seed money for a business like this one that ships ARK Stickers worldwide, or maybe some small dev project, or video production, or article, etc.
Subscribe to the ARK Crypto Podcast. It happens weekly, and it's one of the absolute best podcasts in the space that's centered around a specific project. It knows you're busy, so it's to the point, well constructed, and entertaining. The podcast is looking for subscribers. Do it on iTunes, Google Play, Spotify, Castbox, etc. Here's an updated ARK overview episode that covers much more than you read in this post today.
Other subscribing goodies. Twitter, Slack, Discord, Reddit, Facebook, Medium, etc list of links here.
Just in case, throwing the website URL here, which is ARK.io - it's a really good website that has more information for users and developers, as well as live integrations with dynamic data.
Thanks for coming along for the ride of this post. ARK has been out here, it's out here, and it's going to continue to be out here, doing its part to make sure everybody knows that blockchains are, in fact, a thing.
Proposal for a marketing campaign which I think would be really cost efficient
First, sorry in advance for all the grammatical errors, English is not my native language. To give my silly username a bit of reputability, I have a masters in marketing and economics and 15+ years business experience. I've read a few suggestions about the marketing approach on Reddit and here is my take. "Making videos about NANO and showing its strengths" I like it in general, but in the end that video will become an AD and ADs always have this fishy scent which users generally don't really like. NANO videos are a cool way to introduce new users to NANO, but I'm not sure if it's cost efficient enough. Myself, I always close ADs because I don't know if it's legit or scam. If I'm an average internet user who isn't into cryptos and I start watching that AD it would most likely sound like Venmo/Paypal to me (especially if this AD was played on the market that has a functioning economy), I don't think I would fully grasp the decentralization advantage of NANO and would end up closing the AD while we as advertisers would end up paying for nothing. "Litecoin's approach" Some say that we need Litecoin type of marketing (UFC octagon sticker + NFL clubs accepting Litecoin). While it would be cool to have any type of marketing, I don't think that this type of marketing is financially efficient and we have to be VERY financially efficient because we do not have a treasury fund and we have to rely on our donations which have already proven to be a problem for us. If you check Litecoin's daily confirmed transaction number you will notice that UFC campaign which was few months ago haven't done much if anything at all when it comes to daily transactions number: https://bitinfocharts.com/comparison/litecoin-transactions.html This type of marketing is expensive and it's not really building the usage of Litecoin since other types of payments work just fine in the USA. Think about going to UFC event and seeing that Litecoin sticker, it has just a subliminal impact (brand awareness building) on people seeing it, but none of those users or a very few will buy Litecoin because of that sticker and even less will use Litecoin in western market after buying it. With NFL club accepting Litecoin, the same thing, no one or a very few people will buy Litecoin because now you can pay your NFL game ticket with Litecoin. Why making that additional step of buying LTC with fiat to spend it when you can just spend fiat using credit cards which work just fine?! WHAT I THINK IS WAY MORE EFFICIENT APPROACH AND WHY My suggestion is that we need to go after daily confirmed transactions numbereal usage of NANO/real world adoption which also means more BUYING PRESSURE on the free market, more demand. Here is how I think we will be the most efficient at it. First of all I think we need to focus on remittances market in poor country, there is a real usecase for NANO, a real need compared to Litecoin campaign in USA which doesn't really boost usage because no one needs Litecoin at the moment (maybe if USD collapses it will be another story). Lets use Venezuela for example. The situation there is so bad that people are starving to death. They've literally killed and ate zoo animals a long time ago and now many are eating rotten meat leftovers out of trash cans to survive (yes, it's that bad, check on the Youtube for example https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8MGbyLUCw5k). Average monthly salary is around 10$ while you need 100$ to survive the month. Many Venezuelans depend on their friends and family members outside of Venezuela who are sending them money to survive. From what I read, most money to Venezuela comes from Colombia and Spain (please correct me if I'm wrong) and since most of them cannot use banks the new remittances business model emerged in Venezuela. Users on social networks who have money and bank accounts in two (Venezuela + Colombia for example) or more countries have started their remittances business offering a remittances service for a FEE. Here is where NANO comes into play to skip this fee and to skip the need to meet with a stranger! To read more about remittances market in Venezuela, here is the recent answer from Venezuelan itself https://www.reddit.com/btc/comments/cb7qw1/ama_destroying_myths_about_the_use_of/etdpvza/ OK, REMITTANCES IN VENEZUELA, HOW? As we already figured out, because of economic disaster life is cheap in Venezuela, with 100$ we can feed a person 1 month meaning that also you can get a cheap marketing Let's target Venezuelans with big social media reach (hundreds of thousands of followers or even millions), make deals with them through NANO center and by using our Venezuelan trusted member and pay them out to do a 4 video campaign (as a package) which would include: - video of them explaining basic stuff about NANO - video of them explaining why remittances with NANO (no fee, no intermediary) - video of them showing the whole remittances process (their friend or relative buying NANO with CC and influencers receiving that NANO within seconds to their phone wallet) - video of them spending the NANO to buy groceries (I'm sure one of the shops accepting DASH/BTC which are mostly used in Venezuela today will be happy to accept NANO as well) My guess is that with this approach, we would get many users who would contact their friends and relatives outside Venezuela and ask them to start using NANO for remittances simply because it makes sense and it's more efficient than any other way. WHY INFLUENCERS AND NOT ADS? Trust - As I've already mentioned above, when I see the AD I simply close it and I guess many of you do the same simply because I don't know if it's a scam or not. Influencers have followers who TRUST them which is really important. Cost efficiency - I think the ADs are no match to the potential reach we would be getting through influencers for the same amount of money which of course depends on the negotiated price we would be paying for the campaigns. WHAT'S NEEDED TO START THIS KIND OF CAMPAIGN 1) Reputable intermediary between the community and groundwork deal executor - Ideally this campaign would go through NANO center which has the reputability to collect our donations. 2) Person from Venezuela ...who is willing to be our extended hand and make us a deal with the influencers. Once the donations are collected NANO center would connect with a NANO member in Venezuela who could then contact suitable influencers and setup the deal. Ideally we would already have a Venezuelan who is a member of NANO center, do we?! 3) Money How much would this cost? Honestly I have no idea, we would have to ask to find out, but as the situation there is so bad I think the price would be really cost effective to us considering we would be getting REAL ADOPTION which is maybe the biggest NANO's problem at the moment. There is quite a lot of work required from an influencer to do, from recording, video editing to going across the town to spend NANO. We need to be aware of that when negotiating the fair price with influencer. Also we need to pay our Venezuelan connection who would be doing deals with influencers. 4) Scripts - We would need to create the script for those 4 videos and outline exactly what we want to happen in those videos 5) Influencers - Research and find potential influencers 6) Metrics - Along with comments/and likes bellow the campaigned videos, confirmed daily transactions on NANO block lattice type of metric to show us if the campaigns are successful or not would be really helpful. Looks like we don't have it at the moment, the closest is https://nano-faucet.org/stats/ which I find too confusing for my average brain. I know this metric is not the most precise one due to spam but spam usually creates spikes and what we would be looking for is a long term trend line something like red line in this Bitcoin example: http://prntscr.com/oe933nThis is not essential for this campaign, but if someone could build this it would be useful for NANO in general as well. COULD WE GET SCAMMED? Yes unfortunately, but we can take a careful approach using milestone payments. Having a really trustworthy Venezuelan connection is the key IMO. When it comes to influencers, to mitigate a risk of getting scammed we can pay the influencers after every video instead of all at once. Also, our Venezuelan connection will have to explain to the influencer that there is a huge community behind this idea and that they can expect many more campaigns to follow if the first one proves itself to be a success which should help with not getting scammed. WHAT IS THE END GOAL? Usage of NANO, adoption! - Every remittances transaction will create a few more transactions 1 - buy NANO with fiat 2 - send it to Venezuelan friend/relative 3 - Venezuelans spends it to buy food 4 - merchant will eventually have to sell NANO to get more supply or IDEALLY he/we could close the whole circle and find a supplier who would accept NANO himself or some merchants (who can) would be start saving money in NANO due to it's deflationary property. On top of that people would continue to use it on and on in the future simply because it's the most effective way. Remember that with higher transaction numbers you will eventually get more exposure to media and other users and a bigger value of the network itself. Don't forget, NANO foundation lives from NANO and we need a good NANO price for the team to continue making great updates to the protocol. Also bigger NANO price in USD = more campaigns that we will be able to fund in the future while spending the same amount of NANO. If this method really is the most cost effective for users I really don't see a reason why those first users who came out of watching influencers videos wouldn't recommend their friends to do the same process for remittances! Merchants - If we would be able to get this rolling, many Venezuelans would end up having NANO on their mobile phones, looking where to spend it. They would approach grocery stores and ask to pay with NANO and eventually get us merchants through a simple market demand mechanism. DASH and BTC are mostly used in Venezuela today and we need to thank them for doing the hard work for us introducing merchants to cryptos and having them more likely to accept the more superior payment protocol, NANO. NEXT STEPS 1) Feedback I put some thoughts and time into writing this (as I should for holding a lot of NANO), I'll leave it here and first and most important if your feedback because if NANO community in general doesn't like this idea, then it makes no sense to proceed with it since it won't be getting enough funding. With your feedback we can also improve this proposal. 2) NANO center approval + Venezuelan groundworker If the community likes the idea and the feedback is good we can see what folks from NANO center have to say about it, and to see if we even have a trustworthy Venezuelan member who is willing to make this proposal into a reality. 3) Detailed scripts for videos - I've mentioned 4 important short videos that I think are all needed for 1 successful campaign so that we offer the followers of those influencers the whole package explaining the whole process and answering "Why NANO?" through those videos (of course his can change if you guys give better idea of what we need from the influencer). Scripts need to be detailed with time stamps explaining exactly what we want inside the videos. If we have a green light from first 2 steps I will start this script building process through Google documents and invite you guys to help me build those. 4) Finding and choosing influencers We can create a topic to find the most suitable influencers in Venezuela, Venezuelan members needs to help us with this! 5) Donations With the community and NANO center behind this proposal, Venezuelan connection ready to do it and scripts ready for the influencers the next step would be to reach into our wallets and donate enough money to be able to fund out first deal. 6) Negotiations, budget building Once the donations start dripping into NANO center's wallet our Venezuelan connection can start reaching out to the chosen influencers and see what's doable with our budget and proceed from there. 7) First campaign Do our first campaign, evaluate it and see if it was cost efficient enough and if yes, improve the whole concept from the experience that we will get from the first campaign and proceed scaling further. To show that I'm serious about this proposal, I promise to donate the first 100 NANO to this campaign if the NANO center gives us a green light for this proposal. Without NANo center's green light, I think this proposal doesn't have much chances of success.

Dash In 2018: Disappointments, Boondoggles, Scandals, Disasters, & Catastrophes
[The original post was censored in the the paidshill Dash pumping sub Dashpay, where actual discussion beyond "2018 kind of sucked for Dash" is not allowed.] Disappointments In 2018, Dash failed to be listed on Coinbase while ETC and many other coins were, due to Dash's notorious Instamine, centralized development, and murky Howey Test/SEC Action status. In 2018, Dash failed be included in the OpenBazaar project, while Monero and several other alts were added. In 2018, efforts to hype Dash's supposedly impressive 2mb block-based tx/sec rate were crushed and humiliated when DCG's creaky old client hit a crippling software limitation around the same time as BCH and BSV were chewing through 32 and 64 megabyte blocks. In 2018, Dash's former anti-segwit hero Craig Wright learned new facts about law and concluded Dash is an illegal security, saying so loudly in tweets backed by citations. In 2018, Wirex and other debit card providers supported Bitcoin and many alts, but not Dash, despite a year of Shrem 2.0 shill talk about integrations 'soon'. In 2018, Dash Core used Uphold for the "Acquire Dash" part of their Kript mobile plan, but Uphold doesn't work in Venezuela , so that pillar of their strategy was broken. Boondoggles In 2018, the FanDuel fiasco wasted a fortune in cash and goodwill, leaving Dash's target market of online gambling to Calvin Ayre's BSV and Roger Ver's BCH blockchains. In 2018, the DACH Embassy fiasco wasted a fortune in cash and goodwill, as nobody ever really cared about Macrocuck/Simon/Basilpop/Ezra/Fabio running around desperately trying to look busy enough to justify their ridiculous burn rate and poor results. In 2018, the CoPay fiasco wasted a fortune in cash and goodwill as users and devs suffered an ambush from DCG, leaving the formerly hyped "backbone of Evolution" project instantly retired to abandonware status. In 2018, the Alt36 train-wreck-in-progress slowly lurched towards its imminent conclusion of causing more toxic FUD and wasting a fortune in cash and goodwill with zero deliverables to show for it. Scandals In 2018, fake "Venezuela adoption" news resulted in massive public humiliation as Twitter, cc, and Russia Today (ironically, the home of Dash paidshill Max Keiser) debunked hype that only amounted to useless stickers on greasy cash registers. In 2018, Evan and Amanda were missing in action, despite Evan's previous promises to develop hardware and support the ecosystem with his vast, intentionally insta-mined fortune. In 2018, Dash paid to hold a Bitcoin networking event at a Miami strip club, offending so many people (it was a 2nd offence for Dash with strippers at TNABC) the scandal was reported worldwide by Bloomberg, Fortue, Business Insider, etc. In 2018, knowledge of Dash's instamine became widespread throughout the entire crypto universe and the intentional nature of Evan's faked "bug" excuse became a subject of investigation. In 2018, Dash cargo cultists reduced themselves to shilling the dwindling number of cherry-picked metrics by which Dash was not failing utterly, such as the absurd "FairCoinValue" and fallacious/irrelevant "ATH Masternode Count" hype. In 2018, the KuvaCash fiasco turned toxic (wasting a fortune in cash and goodwill) resulting in a kDAO splinter group of venture capitalist MNOs and creating massive Howey Test implications. Disasters In 2018, a KuvaNation vs. DACH Force News civil war inflicted mass casualties, leaving a permanent split of the "DGBB" community into non-cooperative Team Tao and Team Joel factions fighting over a shrinking Treasury budget like starving rats. In 2018, malicious MNOs trolled Dash at the protocol level and on DashCentral, causing chaos at the very end of voting cycles, thus showing the entire world Dash is not resistant to Sybil attack after all. In 2018, Dash Clown Group Inc failed to live up to its own self-imposed "Agile Development" goals so many times they published one sketchy, final "DRAFT" roadmap, and then quietly abandoned entirely the idea of actually trying to meet deadlines (despite the dash.org page still advertising a Q4 2018 Alpha release). Catastrophes In 2018, a single mining pool controlled enough hashpower to prevent a timely upgrade, demonstrating that Dash's PoW is not sufficiently decentralized (due to Bitmain's monopoly on Dash ASICs). In 2018, www.crypto51.app showed the world Dash is >90% NiceHash-able and thus may be 51% attacked easily and cheaply (<1 BTC per hour), causing Poloniex and other exchanges to require 50 confirmations (rather than using InsantSend). In 2018, the failures of Dash's X11-based PoW security model and resulting threat of attacks caused Dash to abandon Nakamoto Consensus for a wonky, untested, homespun version of checkpoints (conceding defeat and offering an unconditional "pre-consensus" surrender before an attack even happened). In 2018, Evolution was not here by NYE (not even an alpha version of a testnet). In 2018, no amount of brave ThisIsFine talk about buying dips could change the fact that Dash Core Group Inc had to radically downsize due to their customary $935k/month funding being completely unsupportable. Analysis Never mind the price drop, even though Dash suffered worse than most of its Top 20 peers and fell in rank from #3 all the way down to #16. Let's ignore the fact Dash is marketed to investors with the 'Masternode' feature advertised as supposedly stabilizing the price. Let's also ignore the fact that in 2018 Dash's supposed Sybil-resistance was shown to be inadequate, as blockchain analysis revealed dozens of Masternodes trolling at the protocol level by voting no on all but the infamous DEMOTE RYAN TAYLOR proposal. Evolution was, after years of delays, complete from-scratch reboots, and blown goals, given one final self-imposed deadline to meet. Dash's Queen, Amanda of the Used Car Lot, declared she was going have to rethink her position regarding Duff's Instamined Masternode tokens if that deadline wasn't met. That deadline was midnight Dec 31, 2018. Now it's the first morning of 2019 and Evolution is nowhere to be seen. Even worse, Dash Clown Inc is once again making negative progress towards their goals of shipping a test-net version of v13 worth of the term "Release Candidate." Dash Clown Inc burned through ten (10) un-releasable (because broken) so-called Release Candidates. Finally the clueless clowns (running around like headless chickens since Andy Freer was fired or rage-quit) gave up on the entire v13 RC branch and went back to tinkering with v12. No updates to the crucial LLMQ repo have been made since November, when the price drop crushed DCG's budget and Andy suddenly left Evolution to die on the operating table. Dash in 2018 through the eyes of Reddit's most popular crypto sub January 2018
Conclusion The Top Three Dash-related posts at cryptocurrency are a microcosm of Dash's start-to-finish miserable, horrible, terrible year of self-inflicted blunders, money pits, and epoch-ending cataclysms cumulating in the resolution of the Dash experiment and disproving Evan's "Dash is Digital Cash" hypothesis. Note: The repost is shared here. The original has been censored from Dashpay. https://np.reddit.com/DashUncensored/comments/abvewf/dash_in_2018_disappointments_boondoggles_scandals/ [Dash is such a terrible scam that it needs its own uncensored sub to discuss happenings without incurring the wrath of the MNO and the Dash ponzi leadership/Evan/Amanda. I honestly believe crypto must weed out these ponzi like operations before we can move forward as a collective group]
My passion is to push real world adoption in Venezuela, I usually go and test the merchants (which are being promoted on discoverdash and marcocoino [coinmaporg is totally useless outdated data]) if they actually accept any coins and if that is the case I promote them on Bitcoin Map DASH adoption is actually quite big in Venezuela for the simple fact, that they have been here for 1.5 years investing 100k+ into various conferences and teams working on the ground visiting the merchants. But still BTC adoption is bigger! Most people here are doing BTC transactions via localbitcoins, which is free of tx cost as long as they keep their funds on that website. Venezuelans are very trustful people, they do not care much about a wallet being non custodial. They do not actually understand the technical details too much. Even as localbitcoins was blocked in Iran and that could easily happen to Venezuela too... So far ALL the merchants I met do accept BTC in addition to DASH and if that was not the case, then by now I helped them to install the Coinomi Wallet which supports all the coins and I always educate them to accept BTC, DASH and BCH. BCH adoption is very low here, even as bitcoincom paid some promoters to put the (now outdated) brand sticker of themselves on their door in addition to the BCH logo. 8 out of 10 merchants which are promoting to accept BCH do not actually do that, there was uploaded a 10 part series video proof here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dylda-3kHKs I want to create a multi-coin environment, where everyone is free to choose which coin he would like to use, different humans have different interests but my interest is just to support any unfakeable coin!
Firstly, I'd like to express my deepest thanks to the ARK community and beyond for supporting me in winning the video contest. I'd like to give an extra special thanks to gonggrabber for doing two things (on top of putting together a great contest):
Awarding ARK to all accepted entries. This move gave participants a boost of confidence to take part and put out some really great stuff. I had withheld my comments on videos during the campaign to prevent showing any bias, but believe this, that silence is breaking today. I was thoroughly impressed with so many of the entries and everyone will hear those thoughts today. If accepted entries receiving ARK had not been a thing, I likely would not have made an entry. In a winner-take-all environment I would not have felt comfortable competing directly against the very community members I'm sworn to support. With all accepted entries receiving ARK, it made me very happy and comfortable participating.
Allowing everyone to participate including team members. As a long time community member turned team member, I have the unique challenge of occasionally struggling to feel included in various community activities such as contests like this. As a team member, I must watch my words more closely now and avoid doing things like endorsing specific delegates, for example. Having the opportunity to participate in this allowed me to express myself creatively and my love for ARK, and gonggrabber will always have my biggest thanks for this.
Here's something else you may not know about gonggrabber. GG's been in the ARK community far longer than I have, and has been on this Subreddit for a long time. GG is not afraid to stand up to skeptics and naysayers with a signature approach being "what are you doing to help." Reading GG's comments have helped me through darker times in the Crypto Winter, and I have always felt all the more proud and confident with ARK due to GG being here.
Next Steps: Time to Earn ARK!
Now that the contest is over and winner declared, it's time to put the community to work spreading the word! So, because I have won, and in the spirit of gonggrabber's quote "I'm putting my money where my mouth is," I will be awarding a portion of my ARK winnings to the community in exchange for promoting the winning video. Here are the things I will be looking at regarding video promotion with instructions on how to get my ARK. There is a limit of one reward per person per method. Any action taken before this post got posted doesn't count. All rewards will be delivered to you via Delegate Cryptology's ArkTippr Reddit Tip Bot. All this promotion will be for the winning video entry. Retweet With Comment What you need to do:Retweet this specific tweet with a comment about what you thought of the video. You can also choose to tag some people you think would like it. What you will get: Direct message me in Twitter to @ArkStickers and tell me your Reddit username. You will receive a free code for an ARK Stickers pack, delivered anywhere in the world! Tag Friends on Instagram What you need to do: Follow @ArkEcosystem on Instagram. Locate this Instagram post and tag three friends in a comment, who you think would like the video. What you will get: Send me a private message on Reddit before you do it, then I will see you do it and give you 3 ARK. Send an Email What you need to do: Send an email to some people you think will enjoy the video. You should use "BCC" if you are sending one email to multiple people, and make the recipient be to yourself. This will hide the email addresses of your friends so they can't see each other's emails, as a courtesy. If you don't know what BCC means, ask me before you send an email. What you will get: BCC me also in the email, then send me a direct message on Reddit. I will give you 3 ARK. Alert Crypto Youtubers What you need to do: Throw a Youtube comment on your favorite crypto youtuber's channel, letting them know what you think about the winning video and you think they would like it. For spam reasons, I don't think you should put a link in there. Just tell them to check out my youtube channel "Ark Stickers" and they can watch it. What you will get: Before you do it, send me a direct Reddit message first. If they reply to your Youtube comment in any way, let me know and I will give you 5 ARK. Score Me an Interview on a Crypto Youtube Channel What you need to do: Figure out a way to get a crypto youtuber to contact me in some way (Reddit, Slack, Discord, Email). I want to be a guest on their show and talk about the video, the contest, our community, and what ARK is all about. What you will get: Send me a direct message on Reddit to let me know who will be contacting me shortly. After the interview is executed, I will give you 50 (fifty) ARK. I will continue giving you 50 ARK for each channel you get me an interview for. No limits on this one. I also do not care how big or small their channel is. One note: if I have to pay to get on their show I would not be able to do that. Ask any questions in the comments of this post. I will continue to run this program until the portion of ARK I have set aside for this is gone. At that point, I will seek other ways to potentially keep this program running. Good luck!
Honoring the Participants
I have a lot to say about the videos featured in this contest, and even more to say about the talented community members we have here at ARK. I will now personally applaud and thank the community members who participated, showing them how glad I am to have them here. Azure-Infinity.Developing on ARK,ARK Dynamic Fees,ARK Community Commitee,ARK Delegate Types,ARK Hackathons*. When it comes to participation in the ARK community, Azure-Infinity appears to be in perpetual beast mode. AI has a keen grasp on media creation as well, both still and motion. AI's dedication to ARK cannot be argued, and I see AI participate in multiple ways within the ARK community on a regular basis. AI is also a proud member of the ARK Community Committee, collaborating directly with me on helpful community resources. AI had a lot of great things to say during 30 Days of ARK as well. I enjoyed a lot of things about each of AI's entries, but I especially liked the hackathon video, which combined live footage from youtube.ark.io with explanations and clean graphics. I can't wait to see how else AI will enrich our community throughout 2019. A sincere thanks for your participation here. Zzzoem.ARK on the Go. Z's video puts a crisp perspective on everything ARK has to offer from the point of view of a mobile user. Uplifting music and well-paced content with quick-to-understand "tooltips" take the viewer through what it's like interacting with ARK products. I was especially impressed with the fluid transitions, from Mobile Wallet > Explorer > Voting > ACF > Call to Action really produced a beautiful result. Impressed. Ledgerdary.SmartBridge Technology & ACES,IPFS. Aside from having an awesome username that is nothing short of legen... wait for it... dary, Ledgerdary is around here on the subreddit and always has supportive and thoughtful comments ready to fire. Ledgerdary also participated in the 30 Days of ARK and is obviously very knowledgeable on ARK. I was very pleased to see L also participate in this contest, as well. L's videos lay out complex concepts in a simple way, which is one of the reasons why I liked the videos. Thank you for making them! TheDevils4dvocate.ARK DPoS,ARK IPFS Hype Video. Let's get this straight first and foremost. I really liked the music choices of both of these videos, the throwback tech-corporate style of the first, and the pure fun hardcore choice of the second. As someone who does (albeit amateur) voiceover work, I was pleasantly surprised to hear informative voiceover work on the first video. I also really enjoyed how TDA slowly transitioned the viewer from Bitcoin to ARK concepts, kind of like entering a wavepool instead of just jumping off the highdive. The second video is hilarious, worth watching just to see the 'hacker' get comepletely brickwalled by ARK. Cheers- I enjoyed the videos a lot. Fakoshi.ARK Push-Button Blockchains,ARK Pay,ARK: Get Involved,ARK Explorer,ARK Subreddit*. I saw Fakoshi join the ARK Subreddit, and our little corner of the Reddit woods is better for it. Fakeoshi's positive personality is similar to Ledgerdary's and others here. If I recall correctly, Fakoshi also helped out with comments for 30DOA and provided some great insight on ARK concepts. F's videos are light, easy to digest, and give you time to think. I especially liked the concept of an entire video all about getting involved with the project. I'm very glad you are a member of this community. Thanks for your efforts here! Travis-DJSelery.The ARK Crypto Podcast. Travis is ARK.io CMO. Travis does ARK interviews, works with ARK partners, and handles a lot of things behind the scenes. I traveled with Travis to Vegas for the World Crypto Conference and Poker Tournament, and it was great hanging with Travis in real life and watching him do his thing. He also has a great sense of humor, as you will see in his video about The ARK Crypto Podcast that I host every week at https://thearkcryptopodcast.com. The video definitely got a laugh out of me. Thank you Travis for all you do! Crypto_Mining.Long Format ARK Overview. Crypto_Mining has a Youtube channel and following. CM produced a longer video, outlining ARK's strengths and benefits in specific detail, with focus on interoperability and the ARK delegate landscape. I'd like to personally extend a lot of thanks to CM for his entry and involvement in the contest. CM even took it a step further by interacting with his network of followers, teaching them about ARK and getting them involved in the contest voting process. CM proved a formidable opponent, but more importantly, an ambitious person who took real steps to get the word of ARK out there. A special thanks for your involvement and thank you for making the video! 0bran.How to Find and Vote for a Delegate,ARK SmartBridge Explained*,ARK SmartBridge*. 0bran produced some great content for this contest. The first video struck me due to how downright useful it is. I could definitely see my younger brother being able to follow these instructions and successfully vote. I also loved the music choice. It's peppy and chill at the same time. 0bran's videos have a slightly different aesthetic than others here, using the ARK.io visuals (even notice it's a motion loop). Nice! The videos were refreshing and I'll say again, useful af. Cool transitions too! Great work. BroadcastJunkie. How to Send ARK Fast. BroadcastJunkie runs ArkForIT.com, where you can spend ARK on professional infotech services, right now being enterprise-grade antivirus software. BroadcastJunkie is also very active here on the Subreddit, and never fails to lend a helping hand to assist the community. Aside from this video, showing how easy and fast it is to send ARK, BroadcastJunkie also made a full Desktop Wallet v2 walkthrough video earlier this year. It's really nice and even shows how to verify the hashes of the download, in the interest of your security. I'm very glad to have BroadcastJunkie with us. Cheers! pl4tf0rm2.ARK is Cool! Watch out Azure-Infinity, platf0rm2 is apparently becoming a growing force within the ARK community! P is very conceptually creative, and it definitely shows in the video. The entry is as uplifting as it is entertaining. I definitely laughed at a few of the funnier parts. I also really enjoyed the ARK "Deal With It" graphic. Very cool. The little asterisks are great. "Results may vary considerably." Gold. The community also spoke through a lot of votes on the video. I can only assume that P had done some campaigning as well. It was great having P be a part of the contest, just as they were a part of 30 Days of ARK as well. Two thumbs up! Thanks for being here in the ARK community. johnblockchain11.ARK.io (Hax0r Style) Yes! This is my jam. A short video with a unique aesthetic compared to others here. Perfect blending of ARK.io visual assets and motion effects. I thought it was really really cool. If I had seen something like this not knowing of ARK, I'd definitely be curious to learn more. Definitely worth checking out the vid. There are a lot of reasons I like this video, and it's like a "dark theme" of an ARK video. Thanks for making! ChooseArkChooseajob.ARK Mobile Wallet Walkthrough* CACAJ isn't posting daily in the Subreddit, but I definitely see consistent action over the months. CACAJ is definitely repping the concept of participation in the ARK Ecosystem in full force, even through the username itself! CACAJ also participated in the "Describe ARK in One Block Time" contest and had a great entry there too. One thing I like about the video is it gives the viewer a good sample of what it's like interacting with the mobile wallet. I especially liked the step by step process of adding a custom network like Phantom. I noticed none of your entries were in the accepted list, so please contact me in Reddit direct message if you see this ;) saeedanwar92.ARK Overview*. From my experience on this Subreddit, welcome! You seem to be a new face around here. I'm glad you made a video. It shows in a simple and direct way what ARK is about. It's a shame it could not fit into the 25 slots. Please contact me in Reddit direct message if you see this ;) 0toierance.ARK Interoperability*. As a forging delegate, 'del' helps secure the ARK network, processes transactions, and even runs a faucet that awards ARK to its visitors. Another video with voiceover! Nice! I also really liked the stars backdrop. It goes without saying that delegates like del and the rest are a tremendous asset to the ecosystem. Thank you for all you do here del! I noticed none of your entries were in the accepted list, so please contact me in Reddit direct message if you see this ;) pssf84.ARK Overview*. Hi, pssf84, welcome to ARK! I thought your video was informative and fun. Another unique aesthetic, too. It definitely achieves the goal of making blockchains seem less scary, which is a goal of ARK as well. I liked the friendly music and seeing the kid receive a trophy was pretty awesome. Thanks for making your video! I noticed none of your entries were in the accepted list, so please contact me in Reddit direct message if you see this ;) smuorfy.ARK Paper Wallet*. A nice entry detailing the procedure to securely generate a paper wallet for ARK. The graphics were cool, the text-to-speech voiceover was amusing but also extremely concise and informative! "Paul" is resting easy knowing his ARK is safely sitting in cold storage now. I also noticed that it seems this was the only entry pertaining to the paper wallet. I really appreciated that the paper wallet was highlighted in this contest with detailed steps on how to generate and use it. Thank you for this entry! I noticed none of your entries were in the accepted list, so please contact me in Reddit direct message if you see this ;) Once again, many thanks to everyone who was in the contest and our killer community. Cheers!
